How A Book Changed NY’s #1 Real Estate Agent Juan Carlos Barreneche’s View of Life

How A Book Changed NY’s #1 Real Estate Agent Juan Carlos Barreneche’s View of Life

A revelation about your life can come from the most unexpected places. One conversation or piece of media can change the path that you want to travel for the rest of your life. For New York real estate agent Juan Carlos Barreneche, The Latino Agent,  this revelation came through a book.

When Juan Carlos went to college, he majored in Pre-Med. He planned to go to med school to become a surgeon after he graduated. “I knew that it was a great career that would allow me to make lots of money,” he said. “I also wanted to help people.” All of his plans changed when he read the book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, in his junior year. The book, written by Robert Kiyosaki, advocates for making money through real estate, starting businesses, and investing. “I learned a ton of things about financial literacy that I’d never heard before. I didn’t think about the fact that becoming a surgeon would mean exchanging labor and time for money for the rest of my life.” Reading Rich Dad Poor Dad immediately changed Barreneche’s view of life. “When I finished, I wrote down the two things I wanted to do with my time on earth: help people and gain financial freedom. I immediately started thinking about how I could combine these two values into one goal.” When he graduated from college, Juan didn’t go to medical school. Instead, he took the New York City real estate licensing exam. “I knew that this path would be less direct and possibly more difficult. However, I also knew it was one of the only ways to follow my dreams and build a happy life for myself.”

Since he began working in the real estate sector, Juan Carlos Barreneche has ascended to greatness. He’s sold more than $100 million worth of property in his short time in the business. He’s one of the youngest agents in the United States to grow his team at Exp Realty from zero to five hundred agents. He’s also the founder of Goldbar Network, which consists of over 300,000 followers. “I love what I do. Helping people find their dream space is a gift. The financial independence it affords me is just the cherry on top.”

Juan Carlos stresses that everyone should look out for these “aha” moments in their lives. Whether it’s a book, movie, or experience, you never know what can change your life.
