How an Idea to Disrupt Vacation Home Market was Started

Today we interview Nikhil Choudhary, Founder and CEO of BeachEdge a startup that is disrupting how people buy beachfront second homes. We dig into why he started this company, what he was doing before and how Beachedge is going to change the world.

From the Zen of Zenith Engineers Inc to taking a plunge in the sea of technology with a ConTech company – BeachEdge, what led to this change?

Simply put – the consumers. In the past decade the US was short of nearly 276,000 homes. While at Zenith we observed our clients voicing this exact problem, implying the tremendous growth opportunities in construction and real estate sector that could be fueled with the use of technology. This compelled us to go from Zen to disruptive mode with BeachEdge. A ConTech and a PropTech company which is niched in building affordable, smart and LEED certified vacation/second homes. Inclusive of technology to make the process of building & managing your beach homes completely hassle free for the everyday professionals.

What is the one thing you would do differently now that you are CEO of BeachEdge as compared to being the CEO of Zenith?

The gospel truth is Zenith was acclaimed to be the No 1 fastest growing company in engineering of Inc 5000 companies with an overall rank of 213 in 2019 from being ranked at 446 in the year 2018. Implying – the working is impactful, I wouldn’t change much but I’d definitely say “No” more often and keep myself away from meetings I am not needed in. Exuberant prices of the current housing market, millennials fearing being homeless and about a million dreams of owning a house.

What makes you believe BeachEdge would be the answer to this?

BeachEdge will be equipped with hybrid construction technology solutions which enables our homebuyers to build on site as well as offsite, this serves advantageous to our clients as it cuts down the total cost remarkably. This is what makes every BeachEdge home affordable. We want to make the company’s prima facie – houses that every working professional can purchase which we enable with our fractional ownership program. It allows an individual member in a group of homebuyers to own a fraction of the property and as the property’s total value appreciates the individual homebuyers share value in the property accelerates too. The homebuyers essentially share the space for pre-determined periods of time during the year. This program enables homebuyers to own not just one or two properties but a plethora of properties across the globe. Subsequently allowing them to diversify their income sources as well.

How did you settle on the niche of building homes by the beach?
Every once in a while, we fancy ourselves a short vacation, there’s a long weekend in sight, wish we lived in ‘that’ city, to see the sunset/rise by the beach, to have a slice of the ocean just for you, a break from the monotony of pandemic lives, there’s a perfect occasion to throw a grand party perhaps there’s a Gatsby in all of us? A home away from home more or less is always an innate desire. The finer things in
life but make it accessible and affordable, integrated with coming-of-age technology that assented us to settle on our niche. Like using VR for interior and exterior design, usage of AI, survey drones, building information modelling. Finally, beach homes have always been reserved for the wealthy and we wanted to disrupt this very notion.

First, developing sustainable and affordable residential lots in coastal areas.
Building, enhancing, and simplifying the process of acquiring nascent real estate.
Immersive and intensive use of technology for rapid growth and returns.

Serial Entrepreneur, disruptor, innovator, in your own words what’s more to Nikhil Choudhary? And what shaped todays you?

Humbled. Humility is the essence of my working. Work that is disciplined in unwavering focus and the urge to work intelligently but just as hard as the workers at our sites. To be of help and paste countless smiles across as many faces possible is what’s more to Nikhil Choudhary. What shaped me generically is experience but specifically being.

Dropped out of college at 20 moving to another state with $300 in his pocket to pursue opening a business which after one year failed but taught him a lot. He then proceeded to move up the corporate ladder but realized it was not fulfilling. After work he would help his wife with the businesses specifically in marketing and PR where he found his passion. Now he utilizes his almost 20 years in leadership and 5 years in consulting to bring that to all the business they do and his passion for helping entrepreneurs gain traction in publications and podcast guesting through IBH Media.
