How Deque Is Disrupting The Digital Accessibility World

Preety Kumar knew there was a need to disrupt the digital accessibility world before many even knew exactly what the space was. The pioneering woman founded Deque Systems in 1999 to unify web access from the user and the technology perspective. In the last 22 years, the company has become a trusted leader in digital accessibility, providing training, and services to organizations worldwide with the ultimate mission of achieving digital equality by making the web and all digital assets accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities, the company has become the trusted leader in digital accessibility. Today Kumar continues to be both an advocate and a trusted authority for making the digital world more accessible.

How Deque Is Disrupting The Digital Accessibility World

Deque is disrupting the digital accessibility world by helping automate responsibly and sustainably. By enabling dev teams to check for accessibility barriers while coding without impacting their development velocity, accessible apps are easier to build and maintain. Digital equality mirrors other movements, such as those for human rights, racial equality, and other independence movements worldwide, making it independent. Deque is disrupting a system of oppression by removing the obstacles faced by people with differing abilities.

Kumar believes that her company has a few parallels to another historical, technological disruption. Deque aims to make digital accessibility a reality by reducing the cost of testing and building digital properties that are equally accessible to all. The printing press offers insight into how Deque could change the world. Kumar feels as though “The democratization of knowledge by reducing friction for people with disabilities to access that knowledge will increase opportunities and contributions from people with disabilities,” she says. “Inclusion of diverse voices will promote positive change throughout society, and someday, we’ll be able to look back and see the effect that Deque has had similar to other historical technologies.”

Deque helps with accessibility benefits for users of all abilities.  For Kumar, creating an accessible web experience that is sustainable user experience encourages good coding skills while providing a level of independence to people with disabilities that they are constantly seeking. Because of their impact, thousands of companies are utilizing Deque’s tools, services, and training to help advance digital accessibility for all users because prioritizing user experience is not just for those with disabilities.

Deque Plans For A More Accessible Future

Within the next five to ten years, Kumar hopes that Deque’s tools will enable any designer to design inclusively and any developer to create an accessible UI without any accessibility training required. By enabling devs and designers to create accessible applications without training or burdensome changes to their existing development lifecycle, organizations of all sizes around the world will finally be in a position to make a meaningful digital accessibility impact. By shifting further away from compliance-driven efforts, organizations will continue to look to Deque to push the envelope, developing accessible experiences as a product differentiator far beyond the minimal requirements tied to compliance.

Creating an accessible web experience is simply a sustainable user experience practice – it encourages good coding skills while also providing a level of independence to people with disabilities that they are constantly seeking,” says Kumar.  “Thousands of companies utilize Deque’s tools, services, and training to help advance digital accessibility for all users because prioritizing user experience is not just for those with disabilities – it’s just the right thing to do.”
