Interview with Midwest Rapper Sonny Martell

Background Information

Sonny Martell is the father of two beautiful daughters, Indiana State Graduate from humble beginnings. He struggled post-college trying to find his way but found my nitch in sales and management. While working in cooperate America, he was asked to run an independent record label with a small salary. That move in 2015 came right after his grandfather’s passing, and he felt it was divine intervention. That move helped Sonny learn more about applying the skillset I developed over the years to create and elevate brands on any level. After parting ways with that opportunity in 2017, Martell worked even more at his craft and developing his skill set. What you hear today in his music is the businessman who let the music serve as a commercial to his life and a true example of what it looks like never to give up.

Beginning of Interview

Hello Sonny Martell, how are you?

“Hi, I’m doing well; I can’t complain. Just happy to be here.”

Where are you from?

“I’m from South Bend, Indiana, but I currently reside in Indianapolis, Indiana.”

What is your greatest inspiration for your music?

“My greatest inspiration for my music is my 2 daughters. My existence is to build something that’s going to break generational curses in my family and something that’ll last for generations to come.”

What is the hardest subject you’ve ever written about?

“I don’t write anymore. I created my music on the spot, but the hardest thing I created was a record of my 17-year-old brother’s passing. I literally cried in the booth while creating that. But in the end, it served as a form of therapy for me to get it out.”

What are the challenges of being an artist?

“Being an artist from Midwest Indiana, you don’t see many people make it out. I’ve gained more exposure going outside my state and fans appreciating the music more. I’m just now after all these years gaining more momentum at home, which is something I still appreciate.”

What does a day inside your shoes look like?

“Im a father and family man. Before anything else, I have 2 beautiful daughters who are my priority. I wake up every day and grind for them. Typically I wake up around 4 am strategies my days execute and repeat this habit daily.”

Anything else you want the audience to know about you?

“My music media company “Company Sounds” is a company that not only serves as an entity that produces great music, but we do jingles and various other music media services. My other company “Elevated Avenue” is my merch company that specializes in handcrafted wooden products.”
