Jessie Liew SP, Founder of Digital Parenting Club was kind enough to sit down with us and chat about his entrepreneurship journey.
So Jessie, how did you get started with your entrepreneurship journey?
Jessie: It all started in March 2020 when my country announced a wide lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All schools and learning centers are closed. I realized that my children have to embrace the new norm which is online learning. Being a cybersecurity expert is one thing, but having to digital parenting my children is different. I realized I also need to come out with the steps to digital parenting my children. One day, my best friend Lydia called me and confided to me that she has to fight with her teenage son due to the smartphone. That’s when I see I have something to offer to the world.
What are some of the challenges you’ve had to face to get to where you are today?
Jessie: The biggest challenge throughout my 2-year career has been learning how to find the parents’ pain and problem, learning about marketing, and really most importantly mindset. If I give up due to many failures, in the beginning, I can’t help these parents to establish better relationships with their children while empowering them to use electronic devices responsibly and staying safe online!
Do you have some practical advice for those people who might want to get started in a similar career as you?
Jessie: The first thing you have to do is find your BIG WHY. When you decided to start something bigger than yourself, you will be able to stay resilient and push through even though when times are hard. Work on your mindset. Most of the time, it is our self-limiting belief that is holding us back. DECIDE. Make the decision that you WANT TO and that you WILL BE doing this. Once you do that, the next thing is you need to KNOW you will succeed.
Many people find it difficult or impossible to know something which hasn’t yet occurred. But that’s the secret. You have to know it before it happens; that’s how you get it to happen. That’s the level of self-confidence you need to have. Know it unconditionally.
Once you have this unconditional know-ness that you’re going to succeed, the next big thing to do is look at your environment and make changes accordingly. Are you living with negative people? Family members, that don’t support you? Friends who sit around and smoke weed all day? Lots of unnecessary noise that may distract you? If so, get out of there. Change your environment, because it plays a huge part in your success & failure.
What are some of the quotes that make you feel most inspired?
Jessie: “Love is recognition of oneness in the world of duality”
Currently, what is the big message you’d like to highlight?
Jessie: Your current idea of success is probably flawed & will cause you an immense amount of pain in the future. I used to think success was about Lamborghinis and big bank accounts, and that when I reach those goals I would finally be “successful” and happy.
However, I discovered that success has absolutely nothing to do with that. Real success & happiness are internal states, not dependent on external factors and external non-sense. Since birth, we’ve been conditioned to believe the contrary, so it’s extremely challenging for many people to accept it. It’s really not about what you obtain or where you end up, but rather the man or woman you become on your journey there.
Thanks for the interview! What is the best way for someone to reach you if they are interested in working with you?
