Junior Garcia’s journey on becoming a surf photographer, the challenges he faced and his life-goals

The ever-growing popularity of surf has established a place for itself as one of the most loved sports in the world. Many photographers are fascinated with surf and water photography and Carlos Gusman Garcia Junior is one among them. Popularly known as Junior Garcia among other photographers, he is a professional surf photographer and filmmaker from Brazil who is currently based in Indonesia. Familiar with water sports and the big waves, Garcia in his career has captured many breathtaking pictures till now.

The journey towards excellence

Since childhood, Carlos loved to click pictures of nature. While growing up, he discovered his passion for photography and captured some beautiful pictures of water bodies and rivers. Through his constant improvements to be a better version, he embarked on a different journey and chose surf photography as a niche. By different techniques, he has filmed many professional and renowned surfers. Moreover, he loves to make professional video edits of the surf photographers.

Challenges of being a surf photographer

While many people have a notion that surf photography is easy, Garcia says it is extremely difficult. He revealed, “Surf photography has been my passion and I love to show some extraordinary clicks to the world through my lens. For any photographer, patience is the key. You may have an image in your mind but to get the perfect click, you might have to wait for several years depending upon the external conditions like climate and constant mobility of the water bodies.”  The photographer even stated that facing huge waves have now become a part of his life and it doesn’t scare him anymore.

Picking up surf photography as a niche

A believer of thinking “out of the box”, Junior Garcia has always brought innovations through his work. Surf photography is one among them which is not so common. There are many types of photographers including nature and wildlife photographers, sports photographers, product photographers among others. However, surf photography was unique which saw his interest in it. The photographer further added, “I have been familiar with big waves and I am a good swimmer. I believe I was destined to make a revolution in the field of surf photography.”

Life beyond surf photography

Besides clicking spectacular pictures of surfers and the big waves, Carlos has a stunning portfolio of sunset pictures. His work has helped him travel across the globe. Learning new tips and tricks of photography every day, the talented photographer captured Kelly Slater in his lens who is one of the greatest surfers of all time. Besides clicking pictures, the young man loves to travel and his life goal is to create a series of stories through his clicks by travelling beautiful destinations of the world.
