Learn The Three Crucial Leadership Skills To Build A High-Performing Team With Performance Coach Jordan Montgomery

Every entrepreneur sets out to have a thriving business, but many underestimate the importance of enhancing their leadership skills effectively to build and maintain a team. However, a team is the heart of any successful business venture, and understanding how to develop and lead positively is perhaps the most significant determinant of the company’s overall success.

In fact, according to Goremotely, “a whopping 79% of employees will quit their jobs due to lack of appreciation from their leaders.” That’s almost every eight employees out of 10.  This is just one example of the importance of leadership – even the most talented employees can not thrive without the proper culture and environment.  That’s why we’ve brought in an expert for this article who has a reputation for building high-performing teams.

Performance coach Jordan Montgomery, the founder of Montgomery Companies, says that high-performing teams can give the company an edge over the competition. Jordan has spent years as a business leader in the financial services industry. Among his many accomplishments, Jordan developed one of the most successful sales teams in a Fortune 100 company, which drove tremendous results for the organization.

Seeking First to Understand

One of the key tenants in building a successful team is seeking first to understand. A leader should strive to get to know each member of their team to better understand the perspective they bring to their work.  Jordan says it this way, “When you spend time understanding their world, their life, their people, their city, at that moment you honor the relationship.”

In other words,

investing time in your people will do wonders for everyone.  The most successful leaders will seek to understand interests, hobbies, where they’re from, what drives them. When I was interviewing Jordan, he mentioned how Dale Carnegie famously said a person’s favorite sound is their name and their favorite topic is themselves. So as a leader, by keeping the spotlight on your team, you grow excellent relationships at the highest level. These thriving relationships will drive culture and productivity in unique ways.

Elevating, Encouraging & Supporting

Another important value of a leader is the ability to love and encourage your team.  Jordan coaches leaders to lean into really caring for the individuals they lead.  In fact, the most successful leaders go the extra mile in this space A because, as Wayne Dyer states, “the extra mile is never crowded.”

When you look out for people’s best interests you start to see that they trust you with things deeper than surface-level problems. This level of trust transcends all levels of business as well and individuals start to really pour their heart and energy into the organization because they feel loved, celebrated, and supported in all of life.

Shares Feedback

Lastly, the ability to share feedback is critical to building a successful team.  This element of leading can only happen well when you’ve built a strong relationship with your team and then you use that space of friendship and encouragement to call individuals upward.  When you have a strong relationship you can T deliver candid feedback, but you can do so in a bold, loving, and caring way. Jordan states that there is a wrong way to do it as well. The right way is when your feedback is filled with love and delivered with care; that’s when the message goes through and is effective.  The leaders that are willing to push you outside of your comfort zone, get you to do things you wouldn’t normally do.  However, bold feedback without this type of close relationship often has the opposite effect.  This is why Jordan coaches leaders to understand, support and love their people and then call them upward.  Together this drives successful teams.
