Restful Sleep is a Key to Great Productivity

Getting enough sleep in our modern society can be a challenge, to say the least. Firstly we have so many new external factors that humans just haven’t had to face for very long. Carrying mini computers on our persons at all times has created a hyper connected world in which we are always on duty.
We’re always available, always ready to jump into action after receiving an email, text, comment, or any number of other notifications. Our brains and bodies simply do not have the option of really shutting down any more since we generally neglect to give it to them.
The Great Burnout
Although the conveniences of technologies are too long to list, the negative effects it can have on us can be an equally long list if we aren’t careful to regulate ourselves and our own usage.
In this post-pandemic world, with other major stressors such as massive inflation, and the war on Ukraine (including all that it means on a global scale), it’s easy to see why 60% of us feel mentally exhausted. We certainly don’t have to have put in any significant physical effort to feel absolutely drained and in need of quality rest.
In fact, 2 out of 3 employees say they are in desperate need of a vacation, which sadly, less than 50% of us actually take even when it’s available to us. The stress of daily life and all our responsibilities, not to mention the fear of becoming obsolete rather than missed, keeps us working at full speed, even if that means our actual effectiveness and productivity suffer due to a lack of sleep and relaxation.
Even though we’d like to think we’re the exception to the rule; we’re the “superhuman” who can keep going at a thousand percent 24/7, it’s actually more likely to be just a delusion, possibly due to our lack of sleep.
In this non-stop, high stress world, getting adequate and quality sleep is a far-too-neglected key to being able to stay balanced, functional, vital, and healthy for the long haul. Naturally, this all starts with building an environment of rest.
Having a sleeping area that is cluttered, uncomfortable, and too bright is not going to enable anyone to get the full benefits of a full night of rest. It’s highly important to surround ourselves with comfort.
In Conclusion
Doing things such as decluttering, selecting comforting and calming colors, having calming scents, and getting bedding that is comfortable, clean, and breathable, are all essential elements to resting well and waking up ready to face the day ahead.
