RodThaGreat Talks Background, Early Beginnings, New Single “Birthdays”

RodThaGreat

Rising hip hip artist from Atlanta, GA RodThaGreat checked in with us after his recent release of “Birthdays”. Check out the interview below:

–Start of interview–

Tell us about your background, what have you gotten to where you are today?

I been writing songs since middle school but it took me more than a few years to actually record. I remember cringing at hearing my own voice over and over and over when I first started. My very first engineer Kidd Ambition was telling me how dope the song was, but we weren’t hearing the same thing. As I got more confident that process has been way easier and the music got better with time. I feel like I’ve always had my current sound in me, but at first I was trying to be like everyone else. When I released Freedom that really set up the current path I’m on right now.

Where are you from?

I’m from nyc but I’m currently based in Atlanta

When did you start music?

I started making music as RodTheGreat in 2018.

How did you get into music?

I got into music by being exposed to great artists all my life, and even being inspired by 2 cousin’s of mine and being amazed at the things they’ve created. As time went on it became a lucrative way of self expression all while creating songs that I wanted to hear but wasn’t created yet

What is the most challenging thing you have overcome in your life?

The most challenging thing I have overcome is growing up in a world that tries its best to diminish creativity and self expression and not letting fear change who I am.

Are you currently signed or independent?

I’m currently independent.

Who inspires you the most musically?

Musically I’m inspired by various artists all across different genres through different musical eras but my main inspiration is myself. I spend time listening to me and studying myself more than anyone.

What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?

My thoughts and emotions mainly. When people listen to my music they are taking a look into my mind. Everything I write and record is a piece of my soul put into sound and vibration. So whatever I’m thinking and feeling, I want them to feel as well.

Any new music coming out soon?

I’ve been working on the greatest musical work of my life so far! I can’t give the title yet but its another ep and will be different than the previous one I’ve made. The concept is different, sound is different, ideas are different, everything is different. Every song is even connected to each other in some way. I had to get out of my comfort zone for a lot of the tracks, and it sounds very very GREAT.

What is your greatest achievement as a musician?

My greatest achievement so far is this project that I’ve currently finished. I really think this will usher in a lot of great new things.

Do you produce your own music? If not who do you work with?

I wish I knew how to produce. I work with That Boy Saem mostly, he’s the one who actually produced Birthdays as well as most of the upcoming project. I also work with Nxthn beats, and he has a couple tracks on the tape, and they are both talented.

Who is one artist you wish you could work with?

I wish I can work with Hippie Sabotage. I love their music and their connection to sound. They have great taste for sounds and I listen to them all the time.

Tell us about any new music you have coming out? When is coming out? What is it about?

I plan on dropping another single this April and dropping the EP in May/ June. I may let the people decide.
