Sam Romain Speaks On the Art of Building Brands Through SEO

Sam Romain co-founded Romain Berg to help business owners improve their business exposure online with aggressive yet accessible digital marketing campaigns. He has helped many businesses get their feet beneath them with marketing strategies previously unavailable to them. Sam believes his most significant professional accomplishment is building the fantastic team at Romain Berg. He finds motivation in watching his team grow and loves helping those around him achieve their goals. 

His affinity for digital marketing and his love of agriculture and the west define his nickname as the “Digital Cowboy.” While he’s not at work, you can find Sam outdoors, involved with local community politics, gaming, or spending time with his family. As a new father of 2 boys under 2, Sam is quickly learning the ins and outs of fatherhood.

How did you get your start?

I grew up a computer nerd making my first dollar online in the 7th grade. I took a little break from the internet grind when I discovered girls and reconnected in my freshmen year of college. At that time I was doing retail arbitrage on both eBay and Amazon. On those platforms I learned how to rank my products above others, often times even my suppliers. After building a reputation for doing platform SEO for myself a few friends asked me if I could try it on their websites. From there it quickly grew from 1 client to the 70 websites we manage today.

Sam’s advice to young Entrepreneurs

The one piece of advice I wish someone had given me at the start of my career is never to give up. Persistence is key in any career; if you quit too soon, you’ll never know what you could have accomplished. Often times the winner in the room has simply just been doing it longer, so don’t give up, keep pushing forward, and always believe in yourself.

What’s the X-factor when it comes to growing your business?

Double down on your internet marketing. Even if you aren’t tracking it successfully right now I can nearly guarantee it’s working. Doubling down doesn’t mean hiring your friend’s kids, but actually reaching out to an expert. They’re often willing to give free advice and are generally quite affordable. The entire business model of an agency is to generate your business an ROI. If we don’t do that we get fired.

Why did you choose to focus your skills primarily on SEO?

I truly believe that organic search traffic is one of the most lucrative sources of traffic. When a person searches for something they are self-qualifying before they ever even get to your website. Ranking #1 makes your company the preferred solution to that user.
