Boosting Resilience, How Two Entrepreneurs Created a Drink that’s Disrupting an Industry

There is a strong trend to take care of your body and focus on wellness. According to the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), an authority in the world wellness industry, as of 2018, the industry was evaluated at being  a $4.2 trillion industry. Of that number, the global sports drink industry brings in an estimated $24.44 billion worldwide. And while the wellness industry continues to evolve, the sports drink industry has stalled – dominated by artificial, sugary drinks that claim to be good for you. Recoup founders Susan Buckwalter and Siwat Siengsanaoh are disrupting the sports drink industry fueled by their passion for health, their unique wellness journeys and their desire to transform the industry and the way people look at sports drinks.

When thinking about traditional sports drinks, it’s not surprising to find that one 12 ounce drink contains around five teaspoons of processed sugar. To put that into perspective, the American Heart Association recommends no more than nine teaspoons for men, daily, and six teaspoons of sugar for women. Recoup, a ginger-powered hydration and health drink, designed for workout recovery, daily wellness, and resilience boosting is made with natural, thoughtfully sourced ingredients and no processed sugar or stevia. In fact, it contains nothing artificial, is gluten-free and non-GMO. The elimination of processed sugar and all-natural ingredients provides actual hydration without the empty calories or sugar crash. Recoup’s star ingredient, ginger, has been clinically proven to reduce post-workout muscle soreness, aid in gut health, and boost immunity.

Recoup was created by Susan Buckwalter and Siwat Siengsanoah to help people feel better and find recovery from a health issue, a hard workout, or a tough day. Susan, fueled by her passion for fitness and Siwat, driven by his own positive experience with the healing powers of ginger, set out on a mission to make it easier to make healthy choices, even after a hard workout that leaves you depleted. Frustrated by the lack of good-for-you sports drinks, Susan and Siwat wanted to create a drink that supported resilience and connection to the body, even after a workout is complete. They crafted Recoup to make your recovery as healthy as your workout, nourishing your body with clean ingredients.

Three Be’s

Like every company, they have strong beliefs, and theirs can be divided into three be’s: Be Balanced, Be Real, and Be Connected.

The first be encourages people to listen to their body and find what leads to their best life. This means enjoy the indulgences of life but learn to find joy and satisfaction from a great workout and a good night’s sleep. The second be relates to their ingredients. Recoup utilizes real ingredients, which means they avoid artificial colors and flavors that are not beneficial for your body.

The third be is about connecting to yourself, the Earth, and to each other. It is important to connect with yourself by listening to your body, taking care of what is on your mind, and finding what fulfills you. To the Earth by being mindful of how the ingredients that you put in your body are sourced. And to each other by getting to know your neighbors, being part of your community, and giving back, because wellness is better when achieved together.

These three beliefs help guide Recoup on their development and guarantee they will take care of each of their customers, as well as they take care of the drinks they create.

Why Recoup?

Being in and out of the hospital undergoing 10 surgeries in the first 12 years of his life, Siwat learned, from an early age, the importance of focusing on good nutrition to help your body recuperate. Siwat’s mother was the first person to introduce him to the benefits of ginger for digestion and overall recovery and since then, he’s touted its benefits. It’s this unique experience that drives Recoup’s formulation and brand identity. Recoup brings four fundamental reasons why they should be your post-workout drink of choice:

  1. Plant-Powered: they use 2 teaspoons of organic ginger juice–clinically proven to promote muscle recovery, digestion, and immunity–as well as fresh, never-from-concentrate juice. They also add a hint of organic wildflower honey for a touch of natural sweetness.
  2. Hydrating: for every drink they make, they use sustainably harvested maple water, a natural sap extracted from the maple tree, which is an excellent source of hydration and has 46 bioactive minerals, nutrients and amino acids.
  3. Game-Changing: this drink is like nothing you have had before. They realized the flaws there were with current sports or post-workout drinks and fixed them in their own way. Recoup is creating a new path with different standards for fitness and wellness drinks.
  4. Mission-Driven: Their mission: feel better, live well. Every product they create is developed with this mission in mind. At the end of the day, they want to have a positive impact on the life of their consumers and the world around them.

Recoup Your Wellness

Because modern life is a workout and everybody could use a daily dose of resilience, Recoup is creating a different state of wellness with their delicious and healthy beverages. If you are looking to continue helping your body on its wellness journey while connecting with your mind and consuming natural ingredients, they are your go-to option!
