Eric Spofford Sells Granite Recovery Centers

Eric Spofford founded Granite Recovery Centers in 2008, just two years after finding recovery himself from an opioid addiction. Spofford first began with a small sober living home in Derry, New Hampshire – where he lived with 11 other men.
Over the course of the next 13 years, Spofford scaled the operation to one of the largest addiction treatment businesses on the east coast, with 15 facilities. The largest facility, Green Mountain Treatment Center, had over 300 employees. Spofford’s focus was on providing a full continuum of care, including detox, in-patient, intensive outpatient, and sober living.
This past December, Spofford successfully sold the business to BayMark Health Services for an undisclosed price. “I had a good career in it and I was looking for a change,” Spofford told reporters.
BayMark Health Services was one of many prospective buyers, but Spofford decided to move forward with them as he liked their vision for the company.
Eric Spofford is a recovered drug addict turned entrepreneur. At the age of 22, after 7 years of addiction, he found recovery and changed his life completely. Today, Eric is the CEO of Spofford Enterprises where he focuses on venture capital investments, real estate development, and entrepreneurial coaching.
Some examples of Eric’s entrepreneurial accomplishments include founding one of the largest addiction treatment businesses on the east coast, four exits (including a full sale to a private equity-backed strategic buyer), multimillion-dollar real estate development projects, and being an angel investor in many companies. Eric is a national speaker, has testified to the United States Senate, and was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2018 by the Small Business Administration.
In a statement released on BayMark Health Services website Spofford says, “I have worked closely with my team over the last 13 years to build a compassionate, effective recovery network from a single sober living home with the goal of helping others live productive, fulfilling sober lives. I feel confident that BayMark will support and enhance our mission while maintaining the highest levels of care for our patients and improving accessibility to life-saving treatment.”
Spofford told us that selling the business wasn’t always the plan, but he determined it was the right time to move on to other opportunities. He’s now shifting his focus to his entrepreneurial investment firm, Spofford Enterprises.
Spofford Enterprises specializes in real estate, venture capital, and entrepreneurial coaching. They currently manage a mid 9 figure mixed portfolio of multi-family and commercial properties.
