As one who loves music and appreciates the talent that fuels the entertainment industry, I often wondered about what goes on behind the scenes to help creative talent reach great levels of success?

This week, I had the chance to explore that question with entertainment publicist Esmeralda Baez. She shared with us her key strategies for phenomenal success. Let’s see what you can learn from her. 

What has working in Media taught you about managing your career and those of your clients?

I’ve learned to pay attention to other parts of my life, not just work. Do more than what you are asked to do. Have integrity. Treat each project as an audition for the next one, because every client leads to the next and helps build your reputation.

What has motivated you most in your life to reach for success?

My Family. They deserve it, I deserve it. I am just trying to create a better life for them & myself. Also, those people who didn’t believe in me. Those who didn’t see my potential or value. I remember a time where I felt discourage, not knowing where my work will take me. However, I did know that if I stayed consistent rather than just interested, I was going to get far. 

What do you do to stay grounded when working with such A-List individuals and projects? 

I meditate Daily. I try not to take myself so seriously and make every project fun. I focus and put my energy into things I can control. And my team… Everyone in my team is a partner & supporter. We are all bosses and leaders. We help one another. We respect our points of views & whenever we disagree, we compromise and make it work. My team & inner circle keeps me grounded.

What suggestions or advise do you have for new talent? 

Educate yourself about the business. Understand that Talent, is not enough. 

Do not leave your career in the hands of your label, publicist or manager. Your effort & input is as necessary or even more valuable than your entire team. Be reliable. Be coachable. Stay consistent. And remember that discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.
