Beginning of Interview

Hi Sky Society, how are you doing?

“I am doing well, thank you for asking.”

Where are you from?

“From a galaxy far far away, traveled through the womb of creation & arrived in Queens, New York. A few miles from Far Rockaway Beach.”

When did you start music?

“Sky Society was created in 2013; we’ve been writing music since as early as 2009.”

How did you get into music?

“Growing up Latino, it’s in our DNA, rhythm is handed down from our Ancestors. I was reading poems in front of my class and serenading spoken words by the 6th grade. Learned how to beat match and mix when I was 12. We made our 1st mixtape at the age of 15 on some old DJ equipment my pops had in the basement. Chopped up Instrumentals, pieced them together, wrote lyrics for like 13 songs. Recorded myself & two of my homies Aaron & Ian, and the rest is history.”

What is the most challenging thing you have overcome in your life?

“We spent our life savings on owning & operating a record shop/art gallery & music venue from 2016 to 2020. It started on the 1st floor & by 9 months, it had already taken over the lease for the 2nd & 3rd. Curating a creative, safe space for our community & continued upgrading the building to own the real estate long term while positively impacting our city. The landlord of the building made agreements to be accountable for his responsibilities in renovating the property to transition into me being the owner cleanly… he never followed through, after Years of time, energy & investment I put in…He tried taking advantage of the situation. Still, Im too Hot Boy for that & was already working with a lawyer & engineer on the project. I called the bluff; the city condemned his building for actually never being up to code commercially or residentially… he then tried to hold all of my tangible property hostages. We took him to court; I won the case… obviously lol & in return, Justice prevailed, Spirit Spoke. I received my awe-inspiring original collection of fine art back as well as over 10,000 vinyl records in addition to lots of other precious belongings.”

Are you currently signed or independent?

“Independent & releasing all of our original music via the new Label “Higher Frequency Recordings” that we just launched with our brother & fellow label head R3LL.”

Who inspires you the most musically?

“Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Fela Kuti, and Kenny Dixon Jr.”

What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?

“The Frequency, Oneness. The alchemy of energy through the mantras we share. It’s feel good music. 10 out of 10 listeners would say it makes ya feel that way.”

Anything else you want the audience to know about you?

“It’s an honor & humbling experience to be an independent artist/entrepreneur today & age. Not a day goes by where I take that for granted & truly have so much to be thankful for when living a modest life & loving what I do. I feel like I came here to share that energy & joy with everyone on earth, so “you know the vibes.” Thankful for you all & the connections we’ve made.”
