How Did David Imonitie Keep Himself Motivated Throughout his Entrepreneurial Journey?

There comes a time when you feel all alone as no one can see the bright streak of light that shines ahead, but only you. It is in those desperate times that a man falls victim to surrendering all his efforts, hard work, and determination. But this was not what David Imonitie, a multi-millionaire and serial entrepreneur, did at his hour of strife and struggle. As explained by David himself, moving to America is a big dream coming true for most of the Non-Americans, but it surely comes with a lot of attached hardships. David even had to sleep in his car in the early days of his professional life as he didn’t have enough money to even afford a hotel room. His car also stopped in the middle of the road because he couldn’t afford to even fill his gas tank. David’s eye saw all those times as well as today’s, where he is an inspiration and role model for thousands if not millions around the globe. Looking back at all those harsh days, one can get a great deal of motivation to move ahead in life without taking rejections to heart.

David pictured having thousands of dollars and spending it, in those days. Although it may sound irrational to some folks, it is the most effective way of keeping your mind and heart motivated. Once you can imagine your success, you can easily achieve that as well. This was David’s belief throughout his life. Speaking of belief, David also established a home trust organization, iBelieve Foundation. The purpose of this organization is to support the deprived and neglected communities in Africa and provide them with basic life necessities like health, food, electricity, clothes, water and education.

The true character of a person is revealed when he or she is blessed with wealth and worldly possessions. After becoming a millionaire, David spends 10% of his income on charity every month, which is a huge chunk of money. Remembering “the cause”, is also perhaps one of the lessons to be learned here since David never forgot “the cause” to serve while he was going through all that struggle (i.e. to serve the people around him and those who are distant to him as well in the long run).

In his dark times, David used to make dollar bills of 5 million from those of 5 dollars and keep them on his bathroom sink, to elicit motivation every time he saw them. Instead of being disappointed in those dark times when he again had a major fall back after 2012, where his income was reduced to 300 thousand from 2 million, he kept pushing harder until he again bounced back to the level of roughly 1.9 million per year. The zeal, the enthusiasm, the faith in yourself is all it takes to make you prosperous in the longer run.

From the story of David Imonitie, it is quite clear that success is not like a poker game, where you can just gamble for an instant and luck will be by your side, as you hope, and you’ll ultimately leave the casino stashing millions of dollars in your pockets. Rather, success is the result of persistence, routine and discipline as David also didn’t stop even for a single day in his career. He kept moving forward no matter what circumstances he was facing at that time. He even had to cut off his basic expenses like gas for his car, a place to stay, and other necessities.

The entrepreneurs out there need to learn the lesson, that at first you have to invest in your business then you can expect any return from it. The world works on the fundamental principle of give and take, although this sentence is a cliché, it still holds true for all spheres of life. David’s success story also teaches us the same lesson.
