HOW SIGO SEGUROS IS USING INSURANCE TECHNOLOGY TO EXPAND ACCESS FOR LATINOS

When it’s time to get car insurance, most people don’t know where to start.

No one wants to be in a car accident.

Unfortunately, we are all at risk. If we cause it – we may be held responsible for the costs associated with it.

The main reason people seek car insurance is to protect themselves and their passengers. Most shoppers discover car insurance brands online and by recommendations from friends and family. It may sound like an easy task, but it’s complicated, especially if you are Hispanic or an immigrant and there is a language barrier. Many Hispanics pay more for car insurance, based on location, age, credit score and the type of vehicle they drive.

In this landscape is where an Austin Texas-based startup founded in 2019, Sigo Seguros, is disrupting their industry.

Sigo Seguros  aims to close the insurance gap within Hispanic and immigrant communities. Their auto insurance products remove predatory fees and biased rate factors that disproportionately affect minorities such as immigration status, credit score, level of education, or type of employment.

Sigo Seguros is the only insurtech company in the United States that can digitally onboard Hispanic customers in their native language, providing full Spanish language support to Spanish speakers.

Nestor Hugo Solari, co-founder and CEO of Sigo Seguros explains, “Minorities in the United States have enough challenges to overcome—accessing fair auto insurance shouldn’t have to be one of them “.

Customers can get a free quote from Sigo Seguros by simply entering three levels of information: zip code, car information including their type of car, and the driver’s information including name, date of birth and gender. Upon signing and completing underwriting, the customer will then go through a simple onboarding process and  have 24/7 access to their documents as well as customer support via a fully bilingual call center, online chat, and SMS text.

Customer Vanessa Escarrega expresses: “Sigo gave me the best price. Furthermore, the customer service was spectacular and fast.”

The startup has raised $5.4 million in funding this year. The company is using the funds to expand operations and its business reach to enhance access to equitable insurance for immigrant and working-class populations.

In addition to offering its own product in Texas, Sigo Seguros plans to bring its own proprietary products to additional states in the future.
