Interview: Queens, New York Artist Landleezy

Landleezy

Hey Landleezy, how are you doing?

Hello, Hello I’m doing well thank you! How are you?

Where are you from?

I’m from Shadyville, Queens, New York “Northside.”

When did you start music?

I started getting really serious about music in the early 2000s, I want to say around 2005. But I would always write down raps in my notebook during school just playing around.

How did you get into music?

I got into music when I heard my first rap song on a bus ride home from school which was a Mobb Deep record named “Survival of the Fittest”. That beat hit me differently and from that moment I fell in love with music and felt that it was something I wanted to pursue. The thing that really made me want to take music to another level was honestly my friends putting me in local competitions and battles and I’d go in, do my thing and say to myself “I could really do this now let’s get in the studio so I can do my thing”.

Who inspires you the most musically?

Growing up, I was inspired by artists like Jay-Z, Biggie, Mobb Deep, and 50 Cent. These artists had a style of music that made me feel something and I was able to relate to the lyrics because they fit my persona. If you asked me today, I would say that I am inspired by artists like Drake and Lil Baby to name a few but there are plenty of artists I feel are dope and can adapt to their music style both old and new school.

What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?

When people hear my music, I want to leave them saying “Wow that kid can rap” or “He’s nice”! I mean yeah, the music game is a way of life for so many, so we come for the money but the goal is always to be respected and be appreciated for the craft of making “GOOD” music.

Any new music coming out soon?

Yes, I am currently working on a project titled “Believe in the Lord.” Landlord is a name I’m known by in Queens so the title is a spin-off to the name also showing what I bring to the table musically. I want people to believe in me, feel comfortable with me, and hopefully become fans as they spread the word of my talent. The project is set to drop Spring of 2021.
