Interview With Artist Hudson Wave

Hi Hudson Wave! How are you?
“Hey! Thank you for having me, I’m feeling blessed on this beautiful day. How are you?”
Doing great, thanks for asking. Tell us about your background, what has gotten you to where you are today?
“Born from the children of Italian immigrants & Nova Scotian migrants, I have had an interesting perspective on life and overcoming the odds. Most people when they hear that you are from a nice city like Burlington, ON they assume that your family is ‘old money,’ however, my family is quite the opposite. My grandfathers both worked on the boats for a good portion of their lives and they had to hustle to get everything they had. My father’s family were the first Italians living in the area and sponsored a lot of other Italian families helping their immigration process. My father was homeless for a while as he worked to become the first person in our family to attain a university degree. So for me, I do not take the burden of carrying the torch for the next generation lightly as my family has done nothing but climb upwards and reach new heights.”
Where are you from?
“I am from Burlington, ON, Canada.”
When did you start music?
“I started music at the very young age of four when I first started playing the violin and piano, eventually also learning the trumpet, drums, and ultimately becoming a songwriter.”
How did you get into music?
“My Mother’s parents were my exposure to music, my Grandmother was a piano teacher and my Grandfather played the fiddle so for me growing up it would be common for my cousins to all get-together and bring out guitars, harmonica’s, anything really, and just play music.”
Who inspires you the most musically?
“I would have to say André 3000, as a songwriter, he is just on another level, being able to bend words phonetically to create word plays and he is in a class of his own when it comes to changing his flow on the drop of a dime. Not only is he skilled with his pen, but you can hear the broad array of influences he is inspired by in his work.”
What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?
“When people listen to my catalog I want them to be inspired to be their best self, I want people to contemplate the emotions I talk about and see if they can draw parallels with their own life, because songwriting for me is therapy, so if I can genuinely help even just one person go through some real-life trauma then that’s mission accomplished.”
Any new music coming out soon?
“I do in fact have some new music coming out for Summer 2021, definitely want to let my album, Midnight Blue, which I just released breathe for a little bit, but when the time is right, this summer I’ll be dropping some new vibes.”
