Keeping Your Mental Health in Check During These Times with Best-Selling Author, Stephon Hendricks

The world has seen it’s fair share of radical changes, especially in the first two quarters of 2020. The ongoing pandemic has forced a lot of people to lose their jobs and a lot of relationships to tear apart.
Nonetheless, this shouldn’t stop you from being the best version of yourself and helping out others in need. In an interview with self-help author Stephon Hendricks. a couple of weeks ago, he discussed how some of the issues going on around us are affecting us mentally, how to overcome life’s obstacles, and how to keep moving forward despite the happenings.
What Advice Do You Have For Anyone Suffering From PTSD Right Now?
There are a lot of things going on around the world today and due to this a lot of people have developed PTSD. Well let me tell you one thing, it gets better.
Know that and believe that. You’re worthy, you’re good enough and don’t give up when things get rough. Surround yourself with people who genuinely love you, support you, and believe in you – steer clear of toxic energy and keep only positive influences around you to uplift you when things get dark. You can’t get through it on your own.
What obstacles have you faced so far in life and how did you overcome these obstacles?
The obstacles that I’ve faced are situations that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I’ve been through situations that would leave people numb for life.
I’ve seen friends and comrades lose their lives in front of me while overseas in Afghanistan, I made it home alive only to find out that both my mom and son had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I watched them slowly deteriorate while I did everything in my power to save them. That’s the worst part; knowing and seeing the pain and suffering and not being able to do anything about it. They died in the same year, three months apart.
I don’t think anyone can truly overcome some obstacles in life. Some things leave a scar on you forever but like I mentioned before, you can change the way you see life.
You can cut out people and things that don’t serve your life’s purpose anymore, you can do things that make you feel whole, things that make you feel happy and these are things that you never have to feel guilty about.
When you realize this and put it in action in your life, you’ll start to overcome obstacles weighing you down. You’ll begin to heal.
Most people have lost the zeal to keep on pushing forward, to help them out, what aspects of life do you think they should focus on right now in order to achieve success?
Your mind and your heart. I think it’s important to practice daily gratitude, it’s important to think good thoughts and say good things to yourself. You spend all of your time with yourself, say good things to yourself!
Don’t put yourself down whether it’s about physical features or feeling like you’re not good enough. Know your worth and then add tax! You deserve it all so focusing on that and believing it is number one to me.
