Meet Arjun Dhingra: Successful Mortgage Adviser

“I fell into this industry by accident,” Arjun Dhingra says of his foray into the world of mortgage banking. “I was in college, living in a fraternity house, and I started helping some friends who were in the industry collect paperwork for loan fines. Eventually I wanted to do what they were doing and just opened an office with my brother and another friend.”
Today, Arjun has been serving clients as a licensed mortgage banker for 19 years. Certified to lend in 13 states and provide all aspects of the entire mortgage process in-house, including processing underwriting, and funding, Arjun is able to provide value to his clients and strategic partners that goes well beyond interest rates and good service. “I’m in mortgage banking, but I serve as an actual mortgage advisor,” he explains. “There is a big difference in our industry between loan officers and actual advisors. Advisors offer more broad-based, strategic approaches to taking on a mortgage. Tax, wealth, and budget are all aspects of this approach so I often consider it to be ‘consulting-like’.”
He continues, “Much of our industry is commoditized, and the people who work in it submit to that. I consider myself to be more than that, and understand that a mortgage is not just about interest rate, but actually strategy. I position myself as an advisor and someone who helps manage debt, instead of just a licensed paper-pusher.”
Although he got into the industry by chance, Arjun’s intentionality with his clients is anything but accidental. Outside of mortgage banking, he also serves as the co-head coach for Team USA’s Taekwon-Do team. As a two time Taekwon-Do World Champion, and the first Indian-American to medal at multiple world championships, Arjun brings an unmatched level of expertise to the mat. In turn, this experience drives him to work even harder to help clients achieve success. “I am just as competitive with my clients in trying to help them win, as I am with the athletes I coach,” Arjun boasts. “The focus and intensity levels don’t really vary.”
According to Arjun, it is this dedication to those around him that has allowed him to achieve much success in his career. He sets himself apart by being genuinely interested in helping people, more than he is interested in making a profit. Moving forward, he plans to continue connecting with people, on and off the mat. “My next project is furthering my personal brand to reach more consumers and clients that want to achieve home ownership but do so in a way that it truly benefits them,” he explains. “I most enjoy the relationships and bonds that I have formed with our clients and partners. Helping them to achieve, build, and grow ownership is very rewarding.”
