Merico Releases Free Tool for Developers to Certify Skills and Achievements

This month San Francisco, California-based Merico is announcing its latest product: a free tool for developers to analyze and articulate professional strengths and achievements directly from their code.
Merico Build empowers developers and open source projects with insight and data. The tool gives developers insights, credentials and badges on their road to self-improvement, career progress and job opportunities.
It’s premiering at Open Core Summit Digital held online in December 2020.
Github estimates there are 40 million total programmers worldwide, although the actual figure could be lower. Evans Data estimates there will be 27.7 million developers by 2023.
I had a chance to to learn more about Merico Build and how this free tool will positively impact developers across the world.
Merico Build
In 2021, spending on enterprise software is expected to reach $492 billion worldwide. And global IT spending will reach $3.9 trillion this year (a pre-COVID estimate), according to Gartner.
Merico is a leading innovator in code contribution analytics.
The company’s newest product lets developers worldwide analyze their software repositories and realize more value in their coding lives. Merico Build enables programmers to certify their skills and expertise, which lets their code speak for itself.
“It’s more important than ever for developers and hiring companies to have a clear sense of strengths, capabilities, expertise and experience in a manner that is verifiable and data driven,” according to Hezheng Yin cofounder and CTO of Merico. “Merico Build solves this by providing the most advanced contribution analytics in the market.”
The free tool gives a complete picture of the development process to individuals and global companies, according to the San Francisco-based venture. These insights help teams to better understand performance, productivity, quality and strengths.
Understanding a Programmer’s Strengths
Programming code establish infrastructure that underpin the web and countless applications, and these are used by people, organizations and governments worldwide.
With Merico Build, a software developer can better understand his/her own strengths and performance. And these are automatically translated into badges and dashboards to capture and articulate professional value and contribution.
According to Hezheng, many assessments rely on superficial measures that treat all code as being created equal.
“This approach ignores nuances that make great code great, and bad code problematic. Merico accounts for these complexities and details by extracting real insights directly from the code, not the processes wrapped around the code.”
The company’s investors include leading firms GGV Capital, Matrix Partners, Polychain Capital, Legend Star and OSS Capital.
