Personal branding strengthens reporter influence, sometimes exceeding that of traditional media: Humberto Herrera

Journalists, columnists and opinion leaders have boosted their professional careers through personal branding, as mentioned by Humberto Herrera, personal branding expert.

According to the specialist, there are many cases where media collaborators tend to have more followers and bigger audiences than the media properties for which they work for.

“There are even writers working for well-known media outlets like The New York Times, who tend to be more successful on social media than legacy media properties” he said.

This consequence – Humberto Herrera points out – has led to a change in audience behavior; giving more importance and value to reporters or opinion leaders rather than the old school medía companies that employ them.

“It is of utmost importance for these professionals to develop their personal brand, as it allows them to continue maintaining their credibility over time, and thus, consolidate their careers; because if they don’t and for some reason end their relationship with the company for which they work for, they risk losing the most valuable asset: status”, Humberto Herrera says.

To prevent this from happening, the personal branding expert suggests they start positioning themselves on social networks through strategic statements that delimit the field of specialty and the added value they have, that is, in which way they differentiate from the rest.

“The way of spreading news or dealing with information varies greatly, therefore, in the field of communication and journalism there is a wide range of opportunities to stand out from the 97%”, Humberto Herrera explained.

Furthermore, he explained that once the statement is made, it is critical to maintain consistency in all social networks, in other words, cultivate the same professional image on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other platform, as this will give greater credibility to your words.

Along with speaker, author, and entrepreneur Gary Vee, renowned author Cynthia Live, funnels expert Russell Brunson and others, Humberto Herrera is considered one of the world’s leading experts on personal branding.
