Sama Thakore on Making Covers of the Old Songs, Musical Journey and Much More!

We recently exclusively spoke to the talented vocalist, Sama Thakore. Sama is a trained Hindustani and western vocalist. She is familiar with many music styles such as Bollywood, classical, pop, jazz, RnB, Acapella and many more.

Sama’s musical journey has been magical and she shares how she kick-started this journey. She says, “I was 8 when I started learning music. I always pictured myself as a musician. As I grew up, music has been the only thing that did not change. I did many things in life which kept changing, like dance, art among other things but music is something that stayed. So, I just knew that this was meant to be. As I was growing up, I learnt new instruments. I have always wanted to do this and am glad I am doing this today.”

Sama recreates the original Bollywood songs, so we asked her whether she goes through any difficulties while recreating the iconic songs, on which she said, “So I normally pick songs that are close to my heart and I know that I have to do justice to what I am covering. There is always a creative process behind every song, especially when it comes to a song like “Pehla Nasha”. I wanted to do something different with it. When I say something different, my thought is to incorporate specialized vocal harmonies. So, I did a cover where I only used my vocal cords, my voice. I selected Pehla Nasha because I really like the song and also know that it’s popular with people. This is just an example. I am more into acoustic and ambient vibe music. I feel that the audience likes to hear my version of the same. I work hard to create what comes to my mind. I am blessed with ideas and work on them.”

The talented artist also emphasises what excites her to compose new tracks. Sama shares her inspiration and says, “Various situations of my life or sometimes my friends tell me their phase of life which inspires me and it becomes the topic of my writing. Sometimes just sitting on a balcony, looking at children playing or the sun setting inspires me to write. “

The young musician also spoke about her favourite creation. She added, “I think it would be Pehla Nasha because I really put a lot of hard work into that, I don’t think I have ever created anything of that scale, it took me around 4 months to create that and the entire process from start to end is pure bliss.”
