Ways To Use IBC Totes

1. Rabbit Hutch

An IBC tote can be used to make a hutch for your rabbits to live in, whether they are pets or livestock. You will need to do some cutting to create a hinged door for entering and exiting. After you are done, your rabbits will have a very cool multi-story house.

2. Composting

Almost all homesteaders, at all scales, do some composting. There is nothing better than composting to help to produce fertile, rich garden soil. It is smart to compost inside an IBC tote – particularly if you need to do some large-scale composting.

For airflow, drill some holes and cut a bigger hole where your ingredients can be added. Stir it up every couple of days, and you will have an improved garden before you know it.

3. Duck Pond

Although you would want to drain it every couple of days, a DIY splash pool can easily be made out of IBC totes for your ducks. Simply cut the tote in half and then fill it up with water.

4. Calf Hutch

Where I live there are tons of dairy farms. I have seen IBC totes being reinforced into calf hutches by several people. Simply take off the lid and cut a door on the side of the tote. If you purchase a tote that has a cage, the cage can be pulled off, and then stakes can be used to secure it to the ground on the outside of the tote. You will also have a built-in pen for your hutch.

5. Chick Brooder

Many people use plastic storage containers such as Rubbermaid totes to make chick brooders. You can also use IBC totes. An IBC tote can be used to make a small coop and outdoor run for your chicken. You follow the same concept that you would when creating a calf hutch. However,  flip over the cage so it offers aerial protection against predators.

6. Store Firewood or Heating Oil

Most heating oils can be stored in IBC totes. You just don’t want to do it for long periods of time. The cold can cause IBC totes to become brittle, and they should also be kept out of the sun. If you do, you shouldn’t have any issues.

Whatever you are suing a versatile IBC for, buy from Verde Trader.
