5 Ways to Build Credibility and Become the Go-To Expert in Your Niche
Why is it Important to Build Credibility?
Have you ever heard the saying, ‘a jack of all trades is a master of none’? This might be one thing that hurts many entrepreneurs and coaches today. So often we forget our Master Status in our focus area and try to be a jack of all trades.
When it comes to building your credibility in your niche and becoming the go-to person, you need to put in the work in order to earn it. Become known for that niche so that you can secure more speaking opportunities, media attention, as well as helping your ideal client find you and your business. So, how do you become the go-to expert in your niche, and what is needed in order to claim your Master Status so that you can attract more exponential results and opportunities?
1. How to Build Credibility
Being credible in your niche is perhaps one of the most important aspects when it comes to establishing your personal brand as an expert. Can you prove or show results in your chosen area of expertise? This can be shown through testimonials and stories of you helping others achieve their goals, which helps you back up your claims. Ask yourself these questions: Are there people talking about how you have helped them in the chosen field? Have you written a book or have been featured in the media? Do you have awards or credentials to back your claims up with?
2. Build Credibility by Building Your Expert Status
Claiming your expert status in your niche happens over time. You need to be willing to consistently and persistently communicate with your audience about the topic or the niche you have chosen to be the expert in. That means, talking about it on social media, contributing ideas in social groups, having the expert status label on your social media profiles, writing articles about it and producing videos. This may feel repetitive over time, but this is what is required in order to build your expert status and showcase your deep knowledge of that topic.
3. Build Credibility with Social Proof
Social proof is the cherry on the cake when it comes to building your expert status online. This means when people check out your social profiles and digital footprint there is social proof of your results. This may be in the form of followers, testimonials, videos, feedback, media features or other indications that people love what you are saying. This helps build trust with your audience and build your credibility. So, spend some time building your following and your social proof. It is well worth the effort.

4. Build Credibility with Your Reputation
I see this a lot, where people have written books, had lots of podcast features, been featured in the media, but over time have built up a poor reputation. This may be due to customer service, not delivering on promised results, making false claims or creating a bad reputation with existing clients. It is not so easy to measure reputation as it is often in the minds of the people who have had dealings with your business and oftentimes subjective, but it is important to stay on top of what people are saying about you and to handle it in the most professional way possible. Remember that you are representing your brand and should always be aligned with your business values.
5.Build Credibility with Your Values
Perhaps the most important part of building a solid and credible brand is having strong values that determine your actions. In business, it is not easy to build a good reputation and it can be lost in a matter of seconds. So, before you set out to build your personal brand, determine your values and what you stand for. This will shape your communications, the causes you support, the things you speak up about and how you lead your business.
Over time your audience will start to learn your values and associate your business with the things you stand for. Remember, if your brand does not stand for anything, it will fall for anything and quickly crumble.
Last bit of advice:
When building your credibility and personal brand, you have to do your best to build a positive reputation, deliver on your promises and resolve any issues that may arise with your clients. In business, you will face challenges, but if you put your clients first you will be able to safe-keep your credibility.
Remember, tough situations don’t last, but tough people do. So go out there and be the leader that the world needs right now.
