When did you launch your book?

What exactly does your book entail? 

“Unlocking Your Gifts & Finding Purpose In Life” is about how your gift will make room for you in the world among many influential people. Each of us was born to solve a problem in the world. But we’ve become too complacent to refine our gift and find our purpose in life. This book is filled with life-changing actionable steps and questions that are designed to challenge your limiting beliefs. 

For example, Who are you becoming at work, at home, and in your heart? Are you on assignment? Do you even understand the importance of your assignment? Over the last year, we’ve had time to reflect. Our biggest commodity is your time. What have you done with your time in the 21 days? We must recognize that our gifts are needed in the world we live in today. 

Once we walk in our purpose, we help others come into their very own calling. This book will give you steps on how to achieve new levels personally and professionally. Perhaps you desire to get out of that dead-end job, or maybe you hit a ceiling and you can’t elevate to the next level. This book will give you direction, advice, and specific tools that will help you achieve your fulfillment. 

How/why did you choose this topic? 

This topic was birthed during the pandemic when I was furloughed from my job. This gave me time to get still and reflect. Once I got still, I could hear my inner voice where I found that I too let my gift of writing go dormant. It was a distant memory when I would write daily. A moment in time when I relied on words to give me uplift, encouragement, and inner peace. Journaling was a major factor in my life until I started working a lot. I never made the time to write. 

But writing has always been my place of escaping the trials and tribulations of life. Then it hit like a ton of bricks falling from a demolition, Malik you need to write! Once I started on the journey, something unlocked along the path to completion. A question kept popping in my mind, how many people are feeling this way? At that moment I realized that I had a problem that needed to be solved. 

So I began to write until this book was complete. It felt like there was a 100-pound weight lifted from my shoulders once I completed the book. I chose to tap in and refine my gift of writing for myself and many others. 

Why is it important to find purpose during these times we’re living in? 

If someone would’ve told me that we’d lose more than one hundred thousand people to COVID, I would believe it. We are currently living in very interesting and challenging times globally. The way we interact with people is forever changed. I believe that we all have a purpose and life work inside of us. Many of our gifts can help others along their way. We are existing in a time where healing is needed more than ever. I believe it is the same for finding our purpose in life. To walk in your purpose and life work is a necessity for living and thriving in life. In my book, I have a saying that I believe to be true, “Our gifts help us to help others.” That’s why we must find our purpose in life and walk boldly into our life’s work. 

Tell me about the time when you discovered your gift and how you find purpose in life.

 When I was 10 years old, I wrote a poem that was published in the yearbook and the Philadelphia daily newspaper. It was about finding true friendship and the importance/impact that it carries on our lives and how friendship is essential to the soul. At that tender age, I became a published writer. It wasn’t until three decades later that I’ve embraced becoming an author. I recognize that my writing saved my life, helped me heal, gave me patience, and impacted thousands of people on a deeper level. Which inspires me to keep going. When the pandemic hit, I got still, refined my gift and began writing again.
